How to read music in a minute a day music theory stage one lesson 10

This is a treble clef with the TIME SIGNATURE OF 4/4.

A time signature indicates the value (what kind of note it is) of the beat (the top number) and the number of beats in the measure (the bottom number).

The example above and below means that there are 4 'quarter' notes in every measure. The notes written here are called quarter notes. In other lessons we will learn what other kinds of notes look like.

Here is an example of a time signature of 3/4. There are 3 beats in every measure.

Here is a drum playing two measures in 3/4 time.
